The NHEC Co-op 5K

New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) and the Pemi Youth Center have again joined forces to sponsor the 2nd Annual Pemi Youth Cooperative Covered Bridge 5K road race.

The event, which starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 is expected to draw hundreds of runners from across New England and will support the Pemi Youth Center and its mission to provide a safe and welcoming place outside of school for Plymouth-area youth.

The race will start and finish inside the Smith Millennium Covered Bridge that spans the Baker River in Plymouth. The scenic course will take runners along Fairgrounds Road to a turnaround point where it enters the hard-packed dirt of an old railroad right-of-way before returning to Fairgrounds Road and finishing just past the covered bridge. The course is certified “basically flat” by USA Track & Field and, according to organizers, should make the race a highlight of the New England road racing calendar.

In addition to a great course, the 2nd annual event will feature cash prizes for the top male and female runners and walkers. A large raffle will be held at the conclusion of the race. Race timing will be provided by Granite State Race Services. Runners and walkers can register by August 27, 2007 for $17, or $20 thereafter. Kids can register for the Fun Run for just $5.
