Our Organization:

NHEC is the second largest electric utility in New Hampshire, providing service to consumers and businesses in 115 communities throughout the state.  As a member-owned cooperative, serving our members is at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make.

The electric utility industry is currently undergoing enormous change as consumers look for new ways to manage energy costs through distributed energy resources such as solar arrays, battery storage, energy efficiency, and the use of electro-technologies like heat pumps and electric vehicles in place of fossil fuel powered technologies.  These changes present new challenges and opportunities to find ways to meet our members’ evolving expectations and make this an exciting time to work in the electric utility industry. In June 2017, we completed a five-year strategic plan, identifying four areas of strategic focus with actionable goals within those areas.

  • Transformation of our Business Model to prepare for the widespread adoption of distributed energy resources by our members.
  • Adoption of a Voice of the Member platform to help us better understand and meet our member’s needs and expectations.
  • A focus on enhancing our Organizational Effectiveness by transforming NHEC into an organization that is innovative, nimble, and able to respond more rapidly to the changing needs of our members and the way they lead their lives.
  • Ensuring NHEC’s ongoing Financial Stability through development of a revenue model and associated rates and charges that better reflect the way our members will use our distribution system as they increasingly play a role in managing the energy resources that serve them.

 

To help meet the goals in the strategic plan we identified three key drivers that describe the kind of organization we want to be:

The Position:

In order to help meet the goals of our strategic plan and achieve our long term strategic vision, we are looking for an Energy Solutions Manager.  Reporting to the Vice President of Energy Solutions/Facilities, the Energy Solutions Manager is responsible for NHEC’s energy efficiency, social and environmental programs.  The Energy Solutions Manager will oversee the administration, development and research of technologies and markets to determine the appropriate mix of complementary programs and services for our members.  The design and implementation of these programs are necessary to meet the NHEC strategic vision and will require working closely with others on developing new DER programs.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting the strategic goals of NHEC by developing, achieving, and communicating Balanced Scorecard objectives.
  • Supports the cultural goals of NHEC by focusing on the member, modeling NHEC’s values, aligning the Energy Solutions Department to NHEC’s vision and strategy, helping to create a culture of innovation as well as enabling creative thinking, and promotes positive interactions within NHEC.
  • Supports financial goals of NHEC by collaborating in the development of Energy Solutions’ annual program and department budgets and goals, by maintaining those budgets within reasonable variances, and by providing monthly status reports of those budgets and goals.
  • Improves corporate safety performance by ensuring that staff are provided with dependable, quality materials and protective equipment for themselves as well as their work area, ensuring that Employee Safety Rules and Procedures are complied with and violations acted upon immediately, developing and promoting the department safety plan and recognizing at risk behaviors and conditions and taking corrective actions or providing feedback.  Plan and organize monthly safety meetings.
  • Maintains current and competent professional and technical knowledge by attending educational classes, reading professional materials, and by participating in professional societies and groups.
  • Supports NHEC guidelines by developing and updating Energy Solutions policies and procedures, recommending revisions as well as researching new and emerging technologies and makes recommendations to the VP of Energy Solutions/Facilities.
  • Provides training and coaching of departmental personnel and ensures efficient and effective performance of staff by planning, prioritizing, and supervising departmental and cross-functional work activities.
  • Coordinates with Energy Solutions Executive in developing NHEC’s Core Energy Efficiency, Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and Social and Environmental Responsibility programs and other value-added products and services and ensures effective implementation of these programs including renewable interconnections and provides oversight and direction related to meeting program budgets and goals.  Assist in developing the program budgets.
  • Assists in preparation of reports and monthly budgets and documentation for Core Energy Efficiency and Social and Environmental Responsibility Programs to NH PUC and for NHEC Board of Directors.
  • Helps position NHEC for the future by proposing, evaluating, developing, and executing programs, products, and services.
  • Assists with developing, planning, organizing, and attending community events to promote NHEC’s programs.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business or related field required.  Prior management experience required as well as training in leadership, management, coaching planning, and budgeting preferred.  Certifications such as Home Energy Rating System (HERS), Building Performance Institute (BPI), Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or other comparable residential and commercial building performance certification a plus.
  •  Minimum of seven years of experience in coordinating a wide range of programs, products, and services targeted at managing energy usage required.  Must have experience leading teams, projects, and employees.  Must have experience with project management, regulatory filings and program analysis, budgeting and reporting.  Experience in marketing and renewable generation is desired.

 

Abilities, Skills, and Job Knowledge:

  • Must possess and exhibit effective leadership skills.  Must have effective written and oral communication skills.  Must be able to lead staff, and allocate resources in an effective manner in order to reach annual program goals.  Should have strong analytic and negotiating skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook.
  • Must have a working knowledge of generally accepted practices in conducting energy usage analysis.  Knowledgeable with state and local building and safety codes preferred.  Must have a working knowledge of building science technologies, electrical calculations, and installment of energy efficient measures.  Must be familiar with standard business practices, program analysis and reporting, and have a working knowledge of information technology systems and databases.
