The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements and supports a network and voice infrastructure that provides secure, reliable communications for NHEC’s information systems and employees.


  • Design, implement and manage office and field network infrastructure that meets NHEC’s current and future business requirements for security, reliability, and performance.
  • Design, implement and continuously improve IT network operations standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot difficult networking and systems communication issues.
  • Support the Service Desk by providing 2nd level technical support and coordinating 3rd level technical support with vendors.
  • Write and maintain clear, concise, organized technical documentation including network diagrams, design documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain a current and accurate inventory of network hardware and software.
  • Coordinate activities with other teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure that the network infrastructure and operations align with NHEC’s security program and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate as a technical lead or project manager in IT projects as needed.
  • Participate in and lead budgeting and planning activities related to network infrastructure.
  • Promote technical excellence by coaching and training more junior team members.


  • Extensive knowledge of networking and security protocols and concepts such as routing (BGP, OSPF), switching, and IPSec.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Experience with network automation tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to security best practices and principles; familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as CIS and NIST
  • Exceptional analytical thinking as demonstrated by ability to troubleshoot difficult problems
  • Excellent writing skills as demonstrated in clear and concise written business communications and technical documentation.

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in an IT discipline.
  • Industry-specific certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP are desirable.


8-12 years of related experience


Partial telecommuting is acceptable with management approval, however on-site office work in the Plymouth NH area and throughout the NHEC territory will be required periodically.  Occasional after-hours work is expected. All employees are required to assist with power restoration efforts as needed. All employees must provide a personal phone number where they can be reached after hours. This number is for internal use only. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
