Senior Network Security Engineer

The Position

The Senior Network Security Engineer designs, implements and supports a network and voice infrastructure that provides secure, reliable communications for NHEC’s information systems and employees.

Responsibilities

Networking:

  • Communicate regularly with NHEC’s management team and other stakeholders.
  • Design, plan and implement office and field network infrastructure that meets NHEC’s current and future business requirements for security, reliability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot difficult networking and systems communication issues.
  • Train and mentor other network administrators.
  • Coordinate activities with other teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ensure that the network design, technology and processes align with NHEC’s security program and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate as a technical lead or project manager in IT projects as needed.
  • Participate in and lead budgeting and planning discussions related to network infrastructure.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams, design documentation, policies and procedures.

Security:

  • Design, plan, implement, and maintain network security solutions such as intrusion detection systems, vulnerability scanners, security event managers and network access control systems.
  • Collaborate with senior staff on strategic and tactical security guidance for all IS projects, including the evaluation and recommendation of technical controls.
  • Design, implement and monitor key security management processes such as threat management and vulnerability management.
  • Identify, assess, prioritize, and mitigate information security risks across NHEC’s information systems and network.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of networking and security concepts
  • Extensive experience with Cisco networking equipment
  • Exceptional analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management
  • Clear, concise technical documentation and network diagrams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Visio
  • Common industry security standards such as NIST 800-53 and CIS Controls

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in an IT discipline.
  • Industry-specific certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP are desirable.

Experience

8-12 years of related experience

Working Conditions

Partial telecommuting is acceptable with management approval, however on-site office work in the Plymouth NH area and throughout the NHEC territory will be required periodically.  Occasional after-hours work is expected. All employees are required to assist with power restoration efforts as needed. All employees must provide a personal phone number where they can be reached after hours. This number is for internal use only. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
