COLEBROOK – NH Broadband has brought its state-of-the-art fiber optic internet service to Colebrook, which is a real game changer for the North Country.

Residential and commercial Co-op members, as well as customers served by other electric providers, can now experience reliable, affordable service at speeds up to two gigabits per second. Nick Demers, a real estate agent with eXp Realty, says the availability of fiber, high-speed internet often makes or breaks a home sale.

“Colebrook is a very quaint little community. When we get outside of town, the first question I get from buyers is ‘What’s the internet availability here?’ The potential buyers are coming from a place where they can work from home as long as they have the internet connection. So that’s usually an important question,” DeMers said. “This technology could change that for some people.”

Colebrook, one of the northernmost communities in New Hampshire, has seen its economic fortunes rise and fall over the years, but has remained a prime destination for those who want to enjoy the pristine beauty of the North Country and all it has to offer. Even though there are many seasonal residents, they still want and need reliable high-speed internet for entertainment or work.

“As far as I’m concerned, fiber is the way to go. Fiber is the infrastructure of the future,”

Carol Miller, President of the Board of the Coos County Economic Development Corporation.

In her work as Director of Broadband Initiatives for the National Collaborative for Digital Equity, she hears on a daily basis from New Hampshire’s municipalities and residents asking when they will move from the “underserved” to the “‘finally fiber available.”

“There’s an anxiety level in a town as to when it’s (fiber) coming, who it’s going to be available to and are they going to get it,” Miller said.

“Fiber is what’s going to take us to the next level. When my wood pellet boiler emails me to empty the ash bin,” Miller said, her voice trailing off as she laughed. “Really, everything is on the internet. The George Jetson era is here.”
