An Introduction to Electric Choice

The Switch is On!

New Hampshire’s electric industry has changed. It used to be that you could only purchase electricity from your electric utility. As members of the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, you have the power to choose your electric energy supplier, which could potentially lower the price you pay for electricity.

Freedom of Choice

The Co-op does not generate electricity, but distributes electricity over its network of poles and wires. The Co-op purchases electricity on your behalf and distributes the electricity to its members as needed. The cost of purchasing electricity is passed through to the members with no markup or profit. You have the freedom to purchase electric power from a competitive energy supplier, or you can purchase your energy from the Co-op. However, you are not required to make a choice. If you do nothing, the Co-op will continue to be your “default” supplier of energy.
