NHEC Ready for Hurricane Lee

NHEC Ready for Hurricane Lee

New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) has positioned equipment and line crews in areas of concern as we await the effects of Hurricane Lee. Additional contract line and tree crews have been secured in the event of significant outages.

Lee has a wide wind field that is forecast to bring gusty winds and rain to the state. Winds will be highest at the immediate coast, however interior areas may see winds gusts of 40-50 mph on Saturday. With the ground already saturated by recent rains, there is the potential for trees to come down more easily on power lines, causing outages.

AREAS OF CONCERN

  • Southeastern NH (Raymond & surrounding towns)
  • Lakes Region (Moultonborough, Tuftonboro, Alton)
  • Washington Valley (Conway, North Conway)

TIMING

  • Overnight Friday (9/15) into Saturday (9/16)

We encourage you to take simple steps today to prepare for a power outage:

  • Stock up on water, batteries, locate flashlights and other safe sources of lighting.
  • Charge cell phones and other mobile devices. Save battery life by turning power settings to low and turning off data. Charge devices as needed from your car.
  • NEVER use generators, camp stoves, charcoal heat indoors.
  • Keep NHEC’s outage reporting contacts handy: (800) 343-6432; or report via the SmartHub app.

Brian Francis Named Recipient of NHEC Lineworker Scholarship

Brian Francis Named Recipient of NHEC Lineworker Scholarship

PLYMOUTH, NH – A midlife career change is off to a good start for Brian Francis of Plymouth, who was recently named the recipient of the annual New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) Lineworker Scholarship.

Francis, a 2002 graduate of Plymouth Regional High School, spent most of his working life building custom homes in the area, but a desire to help his community led him to consider a new career in linework. Francis says he’s looking forward to the excitement of life on the lines and used the $2,500 scholarship award to complete his training at the Linemen Institute of the North East in New York, where he ranked at the top of his class of 42.

“Brian demonstrated in his scholarship application that he is a community-minded person who wants to give back through his work as a lineman,” said Sara Thielbar, head of the NHEC Scholarship Committee. “We wish him luck in his training and future career.”

NHEC offers one $2,500 scholarship annually to members or children of members who are pursuing a career as an electrical lineworker. CLICK HERE for more information about NHEC’s scholarship opportunities and community programs.
